The Rotary Club of Enfield is honoring Enfield’s veterans by sponsoring military tribute banners that will be displayed in Higgins Park, the Town Green, Freshwater Walkway, North Main Street and Hazardville between Memorial Day and Veterans Day in 2026 and 2027. The Enfield Public Library partnered with Enfield Rotary to preserve digital versions of these banners as well as biographical information about each veteran.

World War I

Seaman

Private First Class

Theodore “Ted” Napoleon Laflamme was born on November 23, 1895, in St. Benoit, Quebec, Canada. As a young man, he moved to Winslow, Maine.

In December 1916, he returned to Canada and enlisted in the 178th Battalion of the Canadian Expeditionary Force. After training, he sailed to England in May 1917. When the battalion was broken up, he was returned to Canada and discharged shortly thereafter.

Later in 1917, he returned to Maine, registered for the draft, and entered service in the United States Army. He trained at Fort Devens, Massachusetts, and was assigned to the 42nd Infantry “Rainbow” Division as a courier. In the spring of 1918, he deployed to France, where he served until the end of World War I.

After the war, he worked as a carpenter, dividing his time between Winslow, Maine, and St. Benoit, Quebec. In 1923, he married Marguerite Mathieu in St. Benoit, and they settled in Winslow. Together they raised four children: Joseph, Marcel, Claire, and Robert. Joseph later served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, and Marcel served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War.

He later moved to Hartford, Connecticut, where he continued working as a carpenter until retiring in the 1960s. In his later years, he lived in Enfield, Connecticut, with his son Reginald.
