The Rotary Club of Enfield is honoring Enfield’s veterans by sponsoring military tribute banners that will be displayed in Higgins Park, the Town Green, Freshwater Walkway, North Main Street and Hazardville between Memorial Day and Veterans Day in 2026 and 2027. The Enfield Public Library partnered with Enfield Rotary to preserve digital versions of these banners as well as biographical information about each veteran.

Armand G. Roy was born on July 11, 1929, in Barre, VT to Oram and Lydia Roy. He grew up in a large family with 14 siblings, including 10 brothers and was part of a remarkable generation of servicemen eight of his brothers served in various branches of the military. Following in their footsteps, he joined the United States Army and served as Corporal during the Korean War from 1951-1953 as a combat engineer. For his service he was awarded the Korean Service Medal with a Bronze Service Star.
In 1958 Armand moved to Enfield with his wife Jeannette and together they raised four children. He was deeply committed to his community, serving on the Enfield Town Council from 1967 to 1978. During this time he was Deputy Mayor for three years and Mayor for two years. His leadership helped guide Enfield through a period of rapid growth, including the installation of sewers and the construction of a new school every year for a decade. He also presided over the towns bicentennial celebration in 1976. He retired in 1986 from Hamilton Standard - now called Collins Aerospace - where he worked on the space suit and life support system.
His life was marked by dedication to family, community and country leaving a lasting impact on Enfield's development and civic life.
