The Rotary Club of Enfield is honoring Enfield’s veterans by sponsoring military tribute banners that will be displayed in Higgins Park, the Town Green, Freshwater Walkway, North Main Street and Hazardville between Memorial Day and Veterans Day in 2026 and 2027. The Enfield Public Library partnered with Enfield Rotary to preserve digital versions of these banners as well as biographical information about each veteran.

Gustave J. Pulaski proudly served in the United States Air Force from 1950 to 1954 during the era of the Korean Conflict. He held the rank of Private and worked as a senior aircraft jet engine mechanic, a role requiring precision, skill, and dedication. During his service, he was stationed in Germany, North Africa, and France. His military honors included the National Defense Service Medal, the Good Conduct Medal, and the Occupational Medal (Germany). He was honorably discharged after four years of service to his country.
Following his military service, Mr. Pulaski began a long and distinguished career with Pratt & Whitney in East Hartford, CT, where he worked for nearly 40 years. He was widely respected as an exceptional mechanic, with expertise extending beyond aircraft engines to automobiles and virtually anything mechanical.
Gus was a devoted member of the United Pentecostal Church and held a deep and abiding faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. He lived his life guided by strong principles, with a steadfast belief in doing what is right regardless of personal cost. He was passionate about his faith, his family, and his country.
Known for his sharp mind and engaging personality, Gus could carry on a conversation with anyone and was a source of knowledge and wisdom to those around him. He maintained his wit and clarity well into his later years and was known for his warm sense of humor and love of laughter. He passed away in 2021, at the age of 90.
Gus was married to his wife, Jane, for 65 years. Together, they built their life in Enfield, CT, where they raised three sons and one daughter. The family endured the heartbreaking loss of one of their sons at the age of 29 in a farming accident. He was the proud grandfather of five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. He was deeply admired and respected by his family and community.
