The Rotary Club of Enfield is honoring Enfield’s veterans by sponsoring military tribute banners that will be displayed in Higgins Park, the Town Green, Freshwater Walkway, North Main Street and Hazardville between Memorial Day and Veterans Day in 2026 and 2027. The Enfield Public Library partnered with Enfield Rotary to preserve digital versions of these banners as well as biographical information about each veteran.

William Theodore Moryto was born on July 3, 1946, to Stephen Moryto and Anna Mae (Drake) in Enfield, CT. He was raised in Enfield and graduated from Enfield High School with the Class of 1964.


He held a few jobs before enlisting in the United States Marine Corps in 1966. Private Moryto completed basic training at Parris Island Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Beaufort, SC, in August 1964. Following basic training, he completed Infantry Training School at Camp Geiger, North Carolina. Private First Class Moryto was assigned to Charlie Company, 1st Battalion, 25th Marine Regiment, 4th Marine Division; a reserve infantry company then located at the Springfield Armory, Springfield, MA. There, he would serve as a rifleman, fireteam leader and squad leader until his honorable discharge with the rank of sergeant in 1972.


While serving in the Marine Corps Reserve, Bill completed the Connecticut Police Academy and was sworn in as a patrolman with the Enfield Police Department in 1972. He was promoted to detective in 1984 and served with distinction until his retirement in 1999. Bill then worked as a Special Investigator for The Hartford Insurance Company until his passing on August 4, 2005 at the age of 51. Bill coached youth baseball for many years in both Thompsonville and Hazardville Little Leagues, including a Connecticut State Championship in 1982.


Bill has two children with his former wife, Karen A. Duda: Lieutenant Colonel William E. Moryto, USMC Retired, and Jillian Schiavoni. Four grandchildren: the late William G. Moryto, Second Lieutenant Matthew S. Moryto, USMC, and Victoria and Kathryn Schiavoni.
