The Rotary Club of Enfield is honoring Enfield’s veterans by sponsoring military tribute banners that will be displayed in Higgins Park, the Town Green, Freshwater Walkway, North Main Street and Hazardville between Memorial Day and Veterans Day in 2026 and 2027. The Enfield Public Library partnered with Enfield Rotary to preserve digital versions of these banners as well as biographical information about each veteran.

Sgt. Frederick James Macsata enlisted in the U.S. Army during WWII and served with the Connecticut Army National Guard 102nd Infantry Regiment in the South Pacific on the islands of Guadalcanal and New Georgia.
In an enemy fire fight, a member of his unit and good friend was hit and killed. Sgt. Macsata volunteered to lead a patrol up the hill to draw enemy fire and expose enemy positions. On the way, he was hit in the shoulder but continued leading the unit. Upon reaching a pillbox where enemy was positioned, Sgt. Macsata used a grenade to destroy the gun shelter and enemy within. Sgt. Macsata was awarded the Bronze Star, a Purple Heart, the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Ribbon with 2 Stars, and the Combat Infantry Badge.
For 52 years, Macsata was a dedicated resident of Enfield where he served the community as Fire Chief and Commissioner of the North Thompsonville Fire Department, a member of the Disabled American Veterans Chapter 50 and American Legion Tanguay McGill Post 80.
He was also deeply committed to supporting youth and families. As an organizer and President of the Trailblazers and Centurions Drum & Bugle Corps, he dedicated his efforts to creating opportunities for young people to engage in positive activities, develop musical talents, and foster teamwork.
