The Rotary Club of Enfield is honoring Enfield’s veterans by sponsoring military tribute banners that will be displayed in Higgins Park, the Town Green, Freshwater Walkway, North Main Street and Hazardville between Memorial Day and Veterans Day in 2026 and 2027. The Enfield Public Library partnered with Enfield Rotary to preserve digital versions of these banners as well as biographical information about each veteran.

Gunnery Sergeant Phillip Andrew Jordan, USMC, was a devoted husband, father, and Marine whose life was defined by service, resilience, and deep compassion for others. Born on April 20, 1960, in Brazoria, TX, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in November 1987 and went on to build a distinguished military career. Over the years, he served around the world, including deployments to Guam, Japan, Korea, Greece, and Kuwait, often training alongside allied forces. His tours of duty included major operations such as Desert Storm, Kosovo, and Afghanistan.
Known among his peers as a “Marine’s Marine,” Phillip earned the respect and admiration of those who served with him. He also served as both an instructor at Camp Pendleton and a drill instructor at Parris Island, shaping and mentoring the next generation of Marines. Affectionately nicknamed “Forrest” or “Gump” for his optimism and kindness, he formed lasting friendships wherever he went and was known for his willingness to help anyone at any time. His dedication and sacrifice were recognized through numerous military honors, and he was posthumously promoted to the rank of Gunnery Sergeant.
Above all, Phillip was a family man who found his greatest joy at home. He loved spending time with his wife, Amanda, and their son, Tyler, and enjoyed simple pleasures like golf, fishing, bowling, and cooking. He was killed in action in 2003 in An Nasiriyah, Iraq, while serving during Operation Enduring Freedom. His legacy lives on through his son, his service, and the many lives he touched.
