The Rotary Club of Enfield is honoring Enfield’s veterans by sponsoring military tribute banners that will be displayed in Higgins Park, the Town Green, Freshwater Walkway, North Main Street and Hazardville between Memorial Day and Veterans Day in 2026 and 2027. The Enfield Public Library partnered with Enfield Rotary to preserve digital versions of these banners as well as biographical information about each veteran.

Leonard A. Beiler Jr. Airman First Class | United States Air Force 1960 – 1964 Leonard A. “Lenny” Beiler Jr., proudly raised in Berwick, Pennsylvania, answered the call to serve his country by joining the United States Air Force in 1960. He completed basic training in Lackland, Texas, and went on to technical school in Amarillo, where he began building the skills that would define his military career.

Lenny was stationed at Westover Air Force Base, where he served as a Hydraulic Specialist working on the B-52 bomber. During this time, he met the love of his life, Mary Ann Woziwoda. Their whirlwind romance led to a lifelong partnership and marriage. He was later transferred to Barksdale Air Force Base, headquarters of the 2nd Air Force, and was called to McDill Air Force Base in Florida as part of a rapid response following the assassination of President John F. Kennedy—an important moment in our nation’s history.

After his honorable discharge, Lenny and Mary Ann settled in Enfield, Connecticut, where they raised their four sons: Leonard, Jeff, Mark, and Scott. Lenny dedicated 35 years of service to Pratt & Whitney Aircraft and remained deeply committed to his community. A lifetime member of AMVETS and the Freemasons, Lenny gave generously of his time as a volunteer youth coach for Hazardville Little League, Enfield Ramblers and Americans youth football, and the Enfield Youth Basketball League. He was also an accomplished athlete, competing for many years in amateur softball leagues. With honor, gratitude, and pride, we celebrate the life and service of Leonard A. Beiler Jr.
