The Rotary Club of Enfield is honoring Enfield’s veterans by sponsoring military tribute banners that will be displayed in Higgins Park, the Town Green, Freshwater Walkway, North Main Street and Hazardville between Memorial Day and Veterans Day in 2026 and 2027. The Enfield Public Library partnered with Enfield Rotary to preserve digital versions of these banners as well as biographical information about each veteran.

Earl Provencher was born on February 7, 1927. Earl left school to join the Navy one week after his 17th birthday. After basic training he was assigned as a gunner in the North Atlantic Campaign. Upon his honorable discharge in 1946, he returned home to Thompsonville and his High School sweetheart, Claire Leete, whom he married and had five children. Earl became a valued member of the Provencher Family construction business. Later he partnered with Ralph August as co-owner of August and Provencher Builders. Earl was a successful home builder with a passion for high quality and integrity sought after neighborhood developments. He was a proud member of; the John Maciolek Post 154, the Patrick F. Triggs VFW Post # 1501, the Knights of Columbus Council 50, the Somers Volunteer Fire Department and the Somers Sportsman Association.
