The Rotary Club of Enfield is honoring Enfield’s veterans by sponsoring military tribute banners that will be displayed in Higgins Park, the Town Green, Freshwater Walkway, North Main Street and Hazardville between Memorial Day and Veterans Day in 2026 and 2027. The Enfield Public Library partnered with Enfield Rotary to preserve digital versions of these banners as well as biographical information about each veteran.
Paul A Nabors
United States army 1956-1958
Specialist 4th class
My dad, Paul A. Nabors, completed his US Army basic training at Fort Dix, NJ; where he was assigned to Company A, 365th Regiment of the 69th Infantry Div. He then graduated from the 11th Airborne Division Jump School at Fort Campbell, KY, as a Paratrooper.
A paratrooper is an elite division of the infantry, whose job it is to "JUMP" out of airplanes, often behind enemy lines. He loved and was so proud doing that. Even continued a bit for fun once discharged. But, funny thing, once he got in his 60's & 70's, he became nervous about flying commercially. This sucked because his retirement home is in Port Charlotte, FL.
My Dad was stationed in the 11th Airborne Div., in Augsburg, Germany from March 1956 - June 1958; while there he also graduated from Armored school. He was honorably discharged in June 1963. Luckily, his term was during peace time. His final rank was as an ER 12 or Specialist 4th Class.
