The Rotary Club of Enfield is honoring Enfield’s veterans by sponsoring military tribute banners that will be displayed in Higgins Park, the Town Green, Freshwater Walkway, North Main Street and Hazardville between Memorial Day and Veterans Day in 2026 and 2027. The Enfield Public Library partnered with Enfield Rotary to preserve digital versions of these banners as well as biographical information about each veteran.

Maurice R. Ledger was born in 1918, and moved to the Enfield Community in 1963. He died in 2008 at the age of 90. He was a faithful communicant of St. Martha’s Church and was a member of the Legion of Mary and an “Adorer” in the Sacred Heart Chapel at St. Martha’s. He was employed as a machinist at Pratt & Whitney for 34 years, retiring in 1981. He was a member of the 96ers Pratt & Whitney Retirees Club. Also served as a longtime member of the Boy Scouts of America, receiving his 50 Year pin in 2007. He was Scout Master of Troop #33 in Springfield and Troop #185 in Enfield, he also served as a Neighborhood Commissioner, and was involved in the activities of the Long River Council. During WW2, he served in the US Army from 1942-1946, including a tour in Australia. He was an anti-aircraft gunner, and held the ranks of Corporal and Technician 3rd Grade.
